Terkadang kita sering melihat di koran-koran atau majalah bentuk tulisan yang huruf awalnya mempunyai ukuran yang agak besar. Kita pun dapat membuat hal seperti itu agar bulletin atau tulisan yang kita buat terlihat bagus
dan professional. Format tersebut dapat dibuat dengan menggunakan Microsoft Word, yaitu dengan teknik format Drop Cap. Caranya sebagai berikut:
1. Pastikan Anda berada pada tampilan Page Layout/ Print Layout.
2. Klik pada paragraf di mana Anda ingin membuat huruf awal besar.
3. Kemudian klik menu [Format] lalu pilih [Drop Cap].
4. Maka akan terbuka dialog Drop Cap, klik icon [Dropped] untuk mengalirkan teks di sekitarnya atau klik icon [In Margin] untuk memindahkan huruf awal ke margin kiri.
5. Anda juga dapat menentukan font yang berbeda untuk huruf awal tersebut dengan mengklik panah bawah Font.
6. Pada kotak Lines to Drop tentukan (dalam banyaknya baris) tinggi huruf awal tersebut.
7. Kemudian pada kotak Distance From Text, tentukan (dalam inci) berapa jauh huruf awal tersebut dari teks paragraf.
8. Klik [OK].
